I would imagine most Striporama readers are familiar with the Girls Gone Wild series, if only for the recent trials and tribulations of founder Joe Francis, who has recently been hauled through court on charges of filming underage girls, tax evasion and contempt of court, and who may end up facing a sizeable stretch in prison as a result.
Now, his video series has reached the UK, and the first two examples have been sent to us for our consideration. So what is all the fuss about?
The GGW tapes have a simple premise: turn up at Spring Break, Mardi Gras and other drunken student-dominated events across the US and convince girls to flash their boobs, bums and - if we're lucky - bush, snog each other and sometimes get down nto some serious solo/girl-girl action.
The concept works because it is very much Reality Video. These are not porn stars or models, and there is a sense of genuine naughinness about the whole exercise, even if the sex 'n' nudity is relatively tame. Personally, I prefer the similar Dreamgirls Real Adventure series, which tends to be a lot raunchier and more daring, but this series certainly provides a fun, sexy hour or so's viewing.
That said, these two samples are not the best I've seen. America Uncovered adopts more of a TV style 'reality' style, complete wiith annoying host and some attempt at 'structure' as the team jet across the country from event to event. It's less raunchy than later examples - there are no explicit girl-girl sex scenes in this edition, while later versions often walk the line between hardcore and softcore, showing girls masturbating and going down on each other - and has too much filler material. On the plus side, some of the girls are gorgeous and conversely, the lack of heavy sex scenes makes it more entertaining from a voyeuristic viewpoint!
Spring Break Anything Goes is as disjointed as its title. In fact, this feels almost like a sampler, as scenes chop and change rapidly, rarely settling long enough for any girl to stamp her personality on the scene and featuring far too much of producer Francis acting like a bit of a wanker. There are certainly moments, and again, the girls are almost uniformly hot, but this is too scattershot to work. This edition does have explicit girl-girl scenes - or did before the BBFC got hold of it. Now, there are none-too-subtle edits whenever the camera pans down for a cunnilingus closeup, saving the sensitive viewer from possible corruption.
While these two DVDs are not the cream of the GGW crop, it's good to see the series out in the UK at last. Hopefully we'll get to review more of them soon!
